8,700 sleeves saved thanks to INCI list REPRINTING

You have 8,700 sleeves already printed for a limited-edition perfume. But one ingredient is missing from the INCI list.

Do you really need to reprint all the packaging just to add a few details?

At OVERPRINT, our first step is to examine the existing packaging to find the simplest way to adapt it.

And sometimes, the solution is simply finding the right place for a few extra words.

Context

For a limited edition, a perfume brand has 8,700 textured paper sleeves designed to wrap its gift sets.

An ingredient needs to be added to the already-printed INCI list.

A conventional solution would be to mask the existing list and reprint a new one.

However, the textured paper presents a challenge: a masking block, even printed in a shade closely matching the material, could remain visible and disrupt the harmony of the design.

How can this information be added without compromising the carefully crafted aesthetics of the packaging?

Our intervention

Rather than covering the existing INCI list, our prepress team carefully examines the packaging design.

And notices one detail: there is space available between the last line of the INCI list and the “Made in France” statement.

Why not simply use it?

The idea is as simple as it is effective: add an extra line containing the missing ingredient, directly in this space.

No masking block. No need to redesign the INCI list. No unnecessary changes to the existing design.

The prepress team then precisely adjusts the positioning of the new line to ensure it integrates naturally into the existing artwork.

REPRINTING makes it possible to add the missing information without altering the rest of the packaging.

Our intervention

Result

8,700 sleeves updated without redesigning the original artwork.

The missing ingredient was added to the INCI list through a targeted intervention, simply by using the space already available.

This solution made it possible to:

Keep all 8,700 existing sleeves.

Preserve the aesthetics of the textured paper and original design.

Avoid a masking block that could have remained visible.

Limit the intervention to the information that needed to be added.

A minor change, but a solution that makes all the difference.

The OVERPRINT reflex

Before reprinting packaging, let's first look at how it was designed.

Sometimes, the solution requires neither complex masking nor major changes.

It simply takes careful observation, creativity and expertise to integrate new information into the existing design.

At OVERPRINT, we always look for the simplest, most appropriate solution to give your packaging a second life.

What makes this case particularly interesting is that the solution came from our prepress team, not just from our expertise in printing techniques. It shows that OVERPRINT’s value also lies in our ability to think through a problem before making any changes to the packaging itself.

I would particularly keep the phrase “Why not simply use it?” It gives the reader the feeling of discovering the solution for themselves, making this case study more memorable.
